For the last two months, governments around the world have been releasing daily Covid-19 updates, asking their citizens to stay at home as much as possible.

But what if you have no home?

United VARS’ CSR project 2020 has committed to supporting orphan children in Tanzania. To do this, we have engaged with Kleine Hilfsaktion e.V., a registered charity committed to helping alleviate life-threatening situations in the poorest countries in the world. The Charity is already operating in East Africa and we are delighted they will work directly on our project’s site to take care of the children.

What will this cost?

The construction of the building is estimated at €30 – 35K. United VARs plans to support this project with €20K and would ask our members to participate in giving donations, voluntarily. The more money we can raise together, the more children we’ll be able to support in making it possible for them to have a good start in their young lives.

Scale of project

The orphanage in Tanzania will house 40 children, with an adjoining school to educate 100 children.

We believe that all children should have the right to go to school and study, to have their hopes and dreams for a better life realised. Their location and family income should not be a factor in preventing this.

Sadly, however, the reality in Tanzania is that 5.1 million children between the ages of 7 and 17 don’t have access to educational institutions or to school supplies. Those children that do have access to schools in Tanzania are sharing classrooms with up to 3 times the recommended optimal average size of a class in a developed country.

1,300,000 children in Tanzania are orphans. We hope that the money we collect together will at least raise enough to ensure 40 children have a home. Shelter is a basic physiological need for everyone.

So, why are we doing this?

Corporate social responsibility helps build trust, raise awareness and encourage social change. It matters to our stakeholders that we are making a positive impact on the world through pro-social initiatives. Doing our part in Tanzania to address the plight of children, who would otherwise not have a home or receive an education, is United VARs contribution to a world issue.

Did you know? Article 25 (1) of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that ‘everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.’
