On September 1, 2022, SAP SE presented a new system for categorizing its partners: More competence and higher customer satisfaction values are now the focus of the partner program.

Silver and gold are no more. As of September 1, 2022, SAP partners are classified according to three different skill levels, believing that it is important to give preference to partners with special expertise and to position them better in relation to customers.

  1. "Essential" (1 bar),
  2. "Advanced" (2 bars)
  3. "Expert" (3 bars)

For each competency, specializations are possible at the product or process level, and each competency of the partner is evaluated in three areas:

  • expert knowledge
  • customer success
  • performance

Six solution areas at SAP

SAP uses the Competency Framework to classify its partners. The competencies "Essential", "Advanced" and "Expert" are awarded per solution area. The six solution areas at SAP are:

  1. Business Technology Platform, Analytics & Data
  2. CRM & Customer Experience
  3. Digital supply chain
  4. ERP, Finance & SME
  5. HR, People Engagement & Education
  6. Network & donation

With this innovation, SAP aims to lay the foundation for customers to be confident that the partner they choose has the knowledge and proven experience to deliver the specific solution they need.

In the SAP Partner Finder page, customers can research which specializations and competencies SAP has assigned to which partners. SAP partners can find out what specializations and skills they have in the SAP for Me portal. There they also find out which additional qualifications they can acquire and which skills are currently at risk.

Karl Fahrbach, Chief Partner Officer of SAP SE, emphasizes that partners determine the success of the digital transformation and their customers: "That's why we want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to identify the right partners for their business requirements. In addition, we can do this recognize and reward the high quality of our partners' performance."

SAP partners welcome the innovations

Partners themselves welcome the extensions to SAP's partner program: "The new Competency Framework shows both dimensions of each partner in detail. This makes it easier for customers to find the right partner who can optimally meet the requirements of their company," adds Alexander Herfort, Head of Business Development at the SAP partner company and network, United VARs.

Thomas Herbst, Managing Director of the Bielefeld-based SAP consultancy Apsolut, which is a solution partner of United VARs alliance: "With the new Competency Framework, we can present our expertise in spend management and carry out successful customer implementations - an important feature in order to stand out from the competition".

Customers will receive the best-qualified specialists regardless of their country of origin.
